The past few weeks have been productive in the Senate with committee deadline fast approaching.  I wanted to share with you a quick summary of legislation I am sponsoring that I look forward to seeing enacted in the next year.

Senate Bill 1234- Disclosure of medical records

Many individuals have several medical care providers that are associated with the different medical assistance either they or their insurance provider requires. Senate Bill 1234 will help to disclose pharmaceutical information between physicians, therapists and care providers to prevent drug to drug interactions, especially in the case of emergency.

Senate Bill 1784- Streamlining DCFS services for efficiency

Senate Bill 1784 also helps to streamline medical care by increasing efficiencies within the Department of Children and Family Services’ Medical Assistance Program by eliminating duplicate services, restructuring the payment process and technical advances. The measure will also allow the Department to publish notices on the Secretary of State’s "Illinois Register" Web site, helping to save the State on estimated $50,000 to $200,000 a year.

Senate Joint Resolution 2- Parents and Community Accountability Study Committee

It is said that it takes a village to raise a child, but it is too often that the social development needs of children are often overlooked. Senate Joint Resolution 2 creates the Parents and Community Accountability Study Committee to examine how racial and socioeconomic impacts affect the development of children. The Committee will also make recommendations on the development of programs to engage parents and communities to take more responsibility in the actions of youth to deter from violence.
