Senator Hunter was awarded this week as "Champion for Senior Care" by the Health Care Council of Illinois. As Chair of the Senate Human Services Committee, Hunter has been an advocate for nursing home reform and quality senior care.
Hunter was presented the award by employees of International Village Nursing Home in her district while they visited the capitol to lobby against budget cuts to nursing home care.

Hunter helps education reform measure through Senate Springfield, IL – Legislation co-sponsored by State Senator Mattie Hunter (D-Chicago) implementing education reforms across Illinois passed the Illinois Senate today. Hunter released the following statement after its passage in the Illinois Senate:
"I would like to commend Senator Lightford for her diligent effort to bring all interested parties to the table to negotiate these significant reforms to our education structure in the state. Our current education system is failing our children. While these negotiations were emotional and personal, we owe our children the opportunity to receive the best education in the world. I also commend my colleagues for recognizing the importance of this measure and for promptly allowing its passage.
Beginning Tuesday April 19th, members of the public will have access to technology in Chicago where they can draw and submit maps to be used in the Illinois remap process.
At the workstation the public can draw boundaries of Illinois Congressional, Legislative and Representative districts to be considered by the Senate and House Redistricting Committees. Users will have access to a menu of census data including racial demographics along with current boundaries of wards, house districts, senate districts and counties. Interested parties will also have access to a facilitator which can offer technical assistance. The terminal will be located on the 7th Floor of the Bilandic Building in a joint, bi-cameral space dedicated to public redistricting efforts.
