I was very happy to visit with the Chicago Park District this week during Parks Day at the State Capitol. During their visit, the park representatives informed me of current programs and upcoming initiatives. I would like to thank the Chicago Park District and all the park representatives from around the state who took the time to meet with legislators. Parks are invaluable resources and bring a wealth of enjoyment to every community.
This month marks the 35th anniversary of Black History Month and while we have so much to celebrate, our country still has so much progress to make. What started in 1926 as Negro History Week and 50 years later transformed into Black History Month allows us to reflect on the history of African-American culture and the diaspora that has led to African-Americans living in nations across the globe.
