Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Larry Rogers, Jr. to Assist Taxpayers to Combat Property Taxes in Hyde Park Township
Chicago, IL., October 24, 2013 – To help taxpayers combat increasing property taxes, Commissioner Larry Rogers, Jr., of the Cook County Board of Review, has partnered with 3rd Ward Alderman, Pat Dowell, Cook County Commissioner Robert Steele, Recorder of Deeds Karen Yarbrough, Senator Mattie Hunter, Cook County Commissioner Stanley Moore, State Representative Marcus Evans, State Representative Christian Mitchell, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Board Commissioner, Kari Steele and the Chicago Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., to host a property tax appeal community forum on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at 6:30 pm. The meeting will take place at D’Estee, Inc., Headquarters, located at 4525 S. King Drive, Chicago, IL.
Attendees will have the opportunity to address concerns regarding the 2013 property tax cycle. Commissioner Rogers’ will also assist taxpayers in submitting an appeal to the Board of Review and answering any additional questions about the appeal process. Attendees should bring their property tax bill and other evidence providing proof of their property’s true value, such as a current appraisal.
Commissioner Rogers has launched an aggressive community outreach campaign in response to the property tax crisis that residents across many communities of Cook County have been facing. He stated that “Through unemployment or underemployment, taxpayers are simply without the means to afford exorbitant tax bills.”
The Board of Review does not assess property, set tax rates, or collect taxes. There is no fee to file an appeal, and in most cases an attorney is not necessary. Board of Review complaint forms can be obtained at the office of Commissioner Larry Rogers, Jr. in the Cook County Building located at 118 N. Clark, Room 601, Chicago, IL 60602. They may also be found and filed on the Board of Review website at: www.cookcountyboardofreview.com.
