SPRINGFIELD – First appointed to the Illinois State Senate in 2003, State Senator Mattie Hunter was happy to be sworn in to her newest term for the 103rd General Assembly.
“I am excited for the opportunity to continue serving the neighborhoods that have shaped me, and the chance to bring more resources to my constituents,” said Hunter (D-Chicago). “I am grateful for all that I’ve been able to accomplish in the last couple of decades and for the continued support in my upcoming term.”
Representing the 3rd Senate District for 20 years, Hunter has established an impressive legacy of public service. Hunter’s priorities remain focused on protecting schools, increasing public safety, creating economic opportunities, expanding access to health care and fighting for equality.
Hundreds of bills regarding breast cancer, childhood vaccines, health care access, substance abuse treatment, youth employment, environmental issues and education were passed during Hunter’s career.
The inauguration of Illinois’ 103rd General Assembly took place in Springfield in the Old State Capitol.
Hunter will serve in leadership as Assistant Majority Leader and is the vice-chair of the Ethics and Executive Appointments Committees. She serves on the Behavioral and Mental Health, Energy and Public Utilities, Executive, Healthcare Access and Availability, and Transportation Committees. She is also a member of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus.
