SPRINGFIELD — As public transit systems in the Chicagoland area are expected to face a $230 million fiscal cliff in 2026, State Senator Mattie Hunter released the following statement after the passage of Senate Bill 2111 through the Senate:
“Today, I joined my colleagues to avoid 40% cuts to service and prevent almost 3,000 transit workers from receiving layoff notices, at a time when cuts to SNAP are expected to run out in 24 hours and the cost of living is on the rise.
“Senate Bill 2111 is a comprehensive measure of necessary reforms and transformational investments needed to ensure a world-class public transit system through viable, long-term solutions to ensure safe, reliable, affordable and accessible transit options for Illinoisans in their own backyard.
“We listened and worked to address issues facing the system, and now Illinois is embracing change and investing in to the future. Senate Bill 2111 is evidence of that.”
