Today, the University of Chicago, located on Chicago’s South Side, won the bid for the future Barack Obama Presidential Center. State Senator Mattie Hunter (D-Chicago) is pleased the president selected his home city for his library.
“President Obama’s legacy will inspire youth across Chicago to aim for the highest offices,” said Hunter, a former colleague of then-State Senator Obama.
“I’m proud the Obama Foundation chose the University of Chicago’s backyard as its new home. Too many youth in our city’s South Side do not see leaders who look like them. They will now understand his place and their place in our country’s history.”
The new library will mark the 14th presidential library and second in Illinois. Akin to President Lincoln, Illinois served as the platform for Obama’s career.
