What is the CTA Apprenticeship Program?

 

The CTA Apprenticeship Program is a second chance initiative offered in conjunction with the City of Chicago and social service agencies throughout the city. Working closely with the Department of Family and Support Services, hard-to-place individuals are given an opportunity to obtain full-time employment and training which may enable a start of a long-term, meaningful career.

How do you apply?

Currently, there are two avenues to become a part of the CTA Apprenticeship Program.

 Individuals contact the following for application/intake:

Westside Health Authority - Serving residents of the City of Chicago (North & West) 773-664-0612

Teamwork Englewood - Serving residents of the City of Chicago (South & East) 773-488-6607

(The intake agency will take an application. The application then is sent to a Referring agency for follow up.)

 Individuals contact one of the 8 referring agencies directly:

  • North Lawndale Employment Network
  • St. Leonard’s Ministries
  • Safer Foundation

Munity | Chicago, an affiliate of the Chicago Summer Business Institute, will host a free Job Readiness Workshop for students who are currently sophomores and juniors in high school on Saturday, March 24, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Workshop highlights include creating effective resumes, preparing for successful interviews, making positive first impressions, understanding office etiquette and interactive role-playing.

 The Illinois Toll Highway Authority is currently seeking applications for the following positions:

Executive Secretary ($35,000 - $45,000 per year)

  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent is required
  • Five years previous secretarial experience is required
  • Ability to pass a typing test at 60 WPM

Senior Accountant ($21.92 per hour)

  • A Bachelor's Degree plus three years accounting experience in an organization of at least $50 million in revenue, or a combination of college accounting courses and five years work experience in an organization of at least $50 million in revenue.

Welder ($22.37 per hour)

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent is required
  • Minimum of two years welding and/or fabricating experience is required
  • Must possess a Class "A" Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with endorsements of air brakes, tanker and trailer combination or a valid Class "A" CDL permit at the time of interview with the above endorsements
  • Able to lift 100 pounds
  • Required to pass a written examination with a minimum of 75% or higher in order to qualify
