Getting vaccinated pays off

pexels rfstudio 3825529CHICAGO – State Senator Mattie Hunter (D-Chicago) is teaming up with Cathedral Missionary Baptist Church to host a vaccination event for Southside residents this Saturday, Oct. 16 from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Though more than 50% of Chicagoans in the 60615 zip code have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, Hunter and several local community leaders and churches are still advocated for higher numbers.

Omni Ecosystems to receive $2 million for green infrastructure

pexels gotta be worth it 919235BRONZEVILLE – Omni Ecosystems, a green infrastructure and business incubator located in Bronzeville, is set to receive $2 million in Rebuild Illinois capital grants to be used for green infrastructure, State Senator Mattie Hunter (D-Chicago) announced Thursday.

"This funding will help to revitalize the community, in addition to making the city greener, literally and figuratively," Hunter said. "Omni offers the South Side significant environmental, social and financial benefits, and this grant will help them continue their work."

“Pregnant women still deserve quality access to education,” Hunter said. “Girls should not have to miss out schooling just because they got pregnant.”

Hunter bill will increase regulation in prescription monitoring program

SB 1842SPRINGFIELD – A proposal led by State Senator Mattie Hunter (D-Chicago) to increase regulations for the prescription monitoring program is now law.

“Primary doctors must be aware of any prescriptions being prescribed or filled for their patients in addition to what they prescribe to ensure any unnecessary prescriptions can be eliminated,” Hunter said. “Opioid overdose rates have risen in Illinois over the last year, and I want to take all necessary precautions so that patients are not over-prescribed but get the help that they need.”
