SPRINGFIELD — As public transit systems in the Chicagoland area are expected to face a $230 million fiscal cliff in 2026, State Senator Mattie Hunter released the following statement after the passage of Senate Bill 2111 through the Senate:
 
“Today, I joined my colleagues to avoid 40% cuts to service and prevent almost 3,000 transit workers from receiving layoff notices, at a time when cuts to SNAP are expected to run out in 24 hours and the cost of living is on the rise.

CHICAGO — State Senator Mattie Hunter (D-Chicago) released the following statement Wednesday after federal agents have been seen walking around the streets of Chicago and detaining residents of the 3rd District:

“No one in our community should have to live in fear of being taken by federal agents, especially as they are heading to work, school or taking a walk with their family. Yet this is the reality our neighbors are facing, including Laura Murillo, who was taken into custody while working in Back of the Yards. She, like many others, have had to leave family and friends behind.

Hunter champions law to ensure hospital patients can designate an emergency contact

SPRINGFIELD — Further ensuring patients have a chance to designate an emergency contact when seeking care, a new law spearheaded by State Senator Mattie Hunter will require hospitals to offer an opportunity to provide contact information.

“No one should have to worry about informing providers or staff about who to contact in case of emergency when seeking the care they need,” said Hunter (D-Chicago). “It is important for hospitals to have a protocol in place to collect the information they need about an emergency contact without burdening the patient to remember to provide it.”
