SPRINGFIELD – First appointed to the Illinois State Senate in 2003, State Senator Mattie Hunter was happy to be sworn in to her newest term for the 103rd General Assembly.

“I am excited for the opportunity to continue serving the neighborhoods that have shaped me, and the chance to bring more resources to my constituents,” said Hunter (D-Chicago). “I am grateful for all that I’ve been able to accomplish in the last couple of decades and for the continued support in my upcoming term.”

SPRINGFIELD – Following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, State Senator Mattie Hunter proudly voted to protect abortion rights in Illinois through a measure that passed out of the Senate Tuesday.

“Abortion is a health care issue, and a medical service that could potentially save someone’s life, especially in regards to combatting maternal mortality,” said Hunter (D-Chicago). “There are so many reasons abortions are needed, none of which is the government’s business. What is the government’s business, is protecting the right to have one.”

SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Mattie Hunter voted to support funding for public health and human services initiatives across the state, passing the supplemental appropriations bill out of the Senate Tuesday.

House Bill 969 includes an additional $648.8 million in general revenue and other state funds as a supplemental appropriation for FY23. These increases include a $90 million increase for Welcoming Centers, $50 million increase for COVID-19 response and mitigation, and a $25 million increase for services for the transition of State Operated Mental Health Facilities resident to alternative community settings.

SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Mattie Hunter was proud to support the Senate’s gun reform legislation package, which passed out of the Senate Monday.

“Gun violence has plagued our communities for far too long, and it feels like a relief to finally have an action item to help make our communities safer at the state level,” said Hunter (D-Chicago). “So many people have died in the past year alone, and our communities cannot continue on like this.”
