SPRINGFIELD – Building upon the General Assembly’s commitment to budget in a responsible, equitable way that benefits communities in all corners of the state, the Illinois Senate Democratic Caucus passed a budget and tax relief plan that puts money back to Illinois families and organizations – two proposals State Senator Mattie Hunter (D-Chicago) was proud to support. She released the following statement:
“Thanks to this package, I am excited the state is moving toward long-term economic growth and stability. This budget and tax relief plan will provide significant relief to Illinois residents through refund initiatives, public safety investments and health care improvement.
“We have done a lot of work to promote equity in the health care sector, and I am ready to see the execution of those initiatives.
“I am glad that working families will get a much needed break. The freeze of the 1% grocery sales tax and suspension of the scheduled increase of the gas tax, in addition to the increase of the property tax rebate, will do wonders for the state economy.”
SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Mattie Hunter (D-Chicago) is proud to support a more than $1.8 billion inflation-busting relief plan that would wipe out state taxes on back-to-school shopping and groceries, stop higher gas taxes and deliver income and property tax refund checks statewide.
The plan was proposed by Senate Democrats Friday, in an effort to continue the General Assembly’s commitment to a responsible and equitable budget for all Illinoisans.
CHICAGO – State Senator Mattie Hunter (D-Chicago) released the following statement following the Supreme Court confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson
“I attended the first U.S. Senate Confirmation Hearing for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, and it was a historic event. I was sad to see that throughout the coming days, many treated her as though she was on trial for her Blackness and not one of the most qualified candidates for the position.
“Despite many hours of being belittled and tried, Justice Jackson held her head high with dignity and grace. Now that she is officially confirmed as a justice, I know she will carry her gavel with the same prowess.
“Judge Jackson is history in the making—this is only the beginning for her and a new era for the country as a whole.”
SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Mattie Hunter (D-Chicago) led a measure to establish the first day of April 2022 as day of remembrance and honor for those who have lost their lives to the COVID-19 pandemic and front-line workers.
“This pandemic has taken so much from us, including many of our loved ones,” Hunter said. “I want to ensure that those who lost their lives to COVID-19 are recognized and remembered.”
